Seven days away

The plan was conceived late last year. The fingers started tapping the off-white keys almost immediately and have been doing so, pretty much, ever since. And now we find ourselves just 7 more sleeps from take-off. It is quite possible, of course, that although we say “sleeps” the excitement will grow and the “sleeps” become shorter and shorter which will render us probably with more like 5 and a bit sleeps. Gosh is that all? It is quite possible, of course, that although we say “sleeps” the excitement will grow and the “sleeps” become shorter and shorter which will render us probably with more like 3 and a bit sleeps. Jeez, really? It is quite possible, of course, that although we say “sleeps” the excitement will grow and the “sleeps” become shorter and shorter which will render us probably with more like 1 and a bit sleeps. Is everything ready? Yes? No? It is quite possible, of course, that although we say “sleeps” the excitement will grow and the “sleeps” become shorter and shorter which will render us probably with more like we go TOMORROW!!!!!!

The point is, it has come around very quickly and it is quite likely that the six months will go just as quickly. We wont of course want it to. We want to take time. Time in everything we do. Time to relax and reflect. Time to look at and feel the newness of everything we do. Three new continents. Three new cultures. Three has always been my number.

Talking about time. Next Friday we shall be at the airport going through the motions of check-in and security. It is so irritating, probably the worst part of any trip and so time consuming; all because some guy some years ago hid a bomb in his shoe. So hasn’t there ever been a case of some one hiding a bomb in a bra?

And those machines that have you standing spreadeagled, whilst the camera pries into and examines your very personal private bits. Watch the persons face next time you are invited to this particular party – do they smile, hide their face behind a hand, or nod in appreciation? Nice job! And by that I don’t mean – I would want to do it, far from it – but rather the nod of appreciation went with the thought “nice job!”

So, with every new customs check-in I will be watching carefully.
